Helga Fanderl was born in Germany in 1947 and wanted to be a poet. She studied, and then taught, language and literature, before discovering that film was the appropriate medium for her artistic expression. She found that it was not language, but visual art, that opened the way to a very personal and intense poetic work. Since 1986 she has created a body of work consisting of 1000 short films, shot in Super8 with no postproduction, that she draws from for her screenings. She also carefully constructs her own programs for each occasion & venue, and presents them in person.
